The aim of ReLife project is to standardise and simplify the waste separation system across the UK, ensuring that recycling rules are clear, consistent, and easy to follow for everyone. By developing a unified waste classification system, supported by intuitive icons, this initiative seeks to: Reduce confusion around what can and cannot be recycled, Improve recycling rates by making waste sorting more accessible, Encourage public engagement through clear, visually guided information.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a more effective and user-friendly recycling system, helping the UK move towards a more sustainable and circular economy.

Design. Jeeye Lim

Inspired by the way waste is carefully sorted and stacked at the waste centre before heading to recycling facilities, I created a typeface that encourages us to view waste not as rubbish, but as material — something with future potential.

This is a modular bin designed using the colour and icon system I developed through research. It can be customised to suit the needs of each space, helping to reduce confusion and encourage proper separation.
